Interestingly, despite a moderate and long-lasting elevation of serum glucose, the development of atherosclerotic lesions and obesity in diabetic KKAy mice was prevented by two different inhibitors, MDL-72974A, and aminoguanidine, indicating that simple hyperglycemia is not harmful for obesity and atherosclerosis in the absence of VAP-1/SSAO activity (Yu et al., 2002; Yu et al., 2004). This evidence concerns the gene AOC3 and obesity disorder.
