The 2016 World Health Organization Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System incorporated molecular parameters into traditional histological diagnosis of glioma, dividing gliomas into distinct molecular phenotypes, such as IDH mutant and IDH wild gliomas, 1p/19q co-deletion and 1p/19q integrity gliomas (Louis et al., 2016). Here, IDH1 is linked to central nervous system cancer.
