Indeed, we were able to detect high levels of myeloperoxidase (MPO) (Figure 2A, Brown-Forsythe and Welch ANOVA p = 0.0024), neutrophils elastase (NE) (Figure 2B, p = 0.0005) and proteinase 3 (PR3) (Figure 2C, p < 0.0001), enzymes widely present in NET structures and released during the degranulation process, in the sera of T1D patients and their relatives, compared to healthy controls. This evidence concerns the gene PRTN3 and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
