For this purpose, we chose the five oncogenic drivers with the highest number of recurrent genetic alterations reported for liver cancer or hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC; from COSMIC, https://cancer.sanger.ac.uk/cosmic); these included four oncogenes, telomerase (TERT), β-catenin (CTNNB1), PI3 kinase (PIK3CA), and the transcription factor NRF2 (NFE2L2), as well as one tumor suppressor, p53 (TP53). The gene discussed is NFE2L2; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
