A recent in vitro study demonstrated that circulating factors contained in plasma samples from NAFLD patients were able to generate a NAFLD-like phenotype in isolated hepatocytes, with effects mediated by NLRP3-inflammasome pathways and by the activation of intracellular signalling related to SREBP-1c, PPAR-γ, NF-kB and NOX2 [104]. The gene discussed is PPARG; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
