HIF1A and ovarian cancer: The fact that hypoxia induces a massive increase in expression and secretion of RNASET2 may be related to a previous observation where in ovarian cancer cell lines, analysis of a region immediately upstream of the first exon of the RNASET2 gene and the whole first intron showed two putative HIF-1 binding sites, suggesting a possible role for one or more of these elements in the observed hypoxia-induced upregulation of RNASET2 expression [19].
