BCL2L1 and B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia: Many “BH3 mimetic” small-molecule inhibitors (SMIs) of the anti-apoptotic BCL-2 proteins, including BCL-2, BCL-XL, and MCL-1, have been developed [11–13], among which venetoclax (ABT-199, Figure 2) [14], a BCL-2 selective inhibitor, has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in 2016 [15].
