CATSPER1 and cancer: Considering the relevance of CatSper for human fertility (Brown et al., 2018) and recent findings from our group supporting the ability of HC to inhibit human CatSper activity (Brukman et al., 2019), the development of a non-hormonal contraceptive method based on CatSper inactivation represents a very attractive approach to avoid the many non-desired effects associated with the use of hormones in both women and men (i.e., hormonal imbalance, increased risk of cancer, weight gain, metabolic disturbances, etc.)or when hormones are contraindicated for health reasons.
