CD68 and breast cancer: In this prospectively followed cohort of breast cancer patients, the presence of crown-like structures of the breast (CLS-B, rings of macrophages in adipose tissue detected by the pan-macrophage marker CD68 immunohistochemistry or by routine H&E staining) was associated with obesity; the presence of CD68 + CLS-B was also associated with insulin resistance and adverse prognosis while the presence of hCLS-B was associated with metabolic health without adverse prognosis.
