The Dictyostelium genome encodes homologs of 11 of the 13 human NCL proteins, including a homolog of the TBC domain-containing protein kinase-like (TBCK) protein, which has been linked to a new possible subtype of NCL (CLN15 disease) (Huber, 2016; Beck-Wödl et al., 2018). This evidence concerns the gene TBCK and glycogen storage disease VI.
