BPA binds to estrogen receptor (ER), G- protein-coupled receptor 30 (GPR30) (Thomas and Dong, 2006 ▶), estrogen-related receptor (ERR) (Takayanagi et al., 2006 ▶), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) and the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) (Krüger, Long, and Bonefeld-Jørgensen, 2008 ▶) resulting in increased serum triglyceride and cholesterol levels, lipoprotein lipase activity and triacylglycerol accumulation, leading to obesity (Metwally et al., 2016 ▶). The gene discussed is GPER1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
