TRPC3 and retinal degeneration: Mammalian TRPC (i.e., TRPC6 and TRPC3) channels also undergo N-glycosylation, but the observed retinal degeneration is not due to impairment of TRP N-glycosylation since mutation-induced removal of its glycosylation site had virtually no effect on the level of the TRP channel protein, but only made the channel constitutively active (Dietrich et al., 2003).
