Preeclampsia, among defective placentation, is also characterized with angiogenic imbalance due to increased concentrations of antiangiogenic factors, such as soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) and soluble endoglin (sEnd), and decreased concentrations of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and placental growth factor (PlGF) [27,28]. The gene discussed is ENG; the disease is preeclampsia.
