We have shown that 12a accumulateswithin immune cellsat sites of inflammation, such as the inflamed peritoneal cavity ofmice, limits the inflammatory reaction in murine peritonitis, andsuppresses bronchial hyperreactivity in experimental asthma by targeting5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX).6 LCMs bind to anallosteric site between the 5-LOX catalytic and regulatory domainsand inhibit the enzyme at concentrations that are reached in plasmafor 12a. This evidence concerns the gene ALOX5 and asthma.
