In conclusion, the higher levels of these specific cytokines in ATIN compared to ATN patients and healthy controls, and the significant decline after treatment allow us to propose I-TAC/CXCL11, CXCL10, IL6 and MCP-1, alone or in combination, as candidate cytokines that may serve as novel diagnostic and follow-up biomarkers in patients undergoing AKI due to ATIN.
