Serum albumin <3.5 g/dL was the greatest overall risk factor for infection (odds ratio [OR]: 3.1, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.3-4.4, P < .0001), readmission (OR: 2.2, 95% CI: 1.9-2.5, P < .0001), any complication (OR: 4.2, 95% CI: 3.8-4.6, P < .0001), and mortality (OR: 7.5, 95% CI: 5.3-10.6, P < .0001). This evidence concerns the gene ALB and infection.
