Research into the therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases have proposed several different small molecules as candidates either targeting Aβ or tau lesions (Morimoto et al., 2013; Lecoutey et al., 2014; Yahiaoui et al., 2016), including autophagy modulators (Silva et al., 2020; Bourdenx et al., 2021), but to our knowledge, none of them, except the CMA activator (Bourdenx et al., 2021), acts on both the amyloid and tau pathological processes. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and neurodegenerative disease.
