Excessive oxidative stress is caused by elevated levels of Cu/Zn SOD (SOD1) which is coded for on chromosome 21, region 21q22–1, and in DS SOD1 which is overexpressed by approximately 50% relative to control, non-DS patients [6], thus playing an important role in DS-related oxidative stress [7, 8]. Here, SOD1 is linked to Dravet syndrome.
