As macropinocytosis depends on phospholipase C (Amyere et al., 2002; Yoshida et al., 2015), its activation by proton-sensing G protein-coupled receptors such as ovarian cancer G protein-coupled receptor 1 (OGR1/GPR68), G protein-coupled receptor 4 (GPR4), T-cell death-associated gene 8 (TDAG8/GPR65), and GPR132/G2A (Seuwen et al., 2006; Alexander et al., 2017; Insel et al., 2020) may also explain the observed stimulatory effect of extracellular acidosis on pinocytosis. This evidence concerns the gene GPR4 and ovarian carcinoma.
