While the conventional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, i.e., cyclooxygenase inhibitors have failed to retard DN progression, the targeted inhibition of the inflammatory mediators including monocyte chemo-attractant protein 1 (MCP-1), C-C chemokine receptor type 2 (CCR-2), and Janus kinase 1/2 (JAK1/2) in phase 2 clinical trials have shown substantial renoprotective effects in DN patients (5).
