Introduction of sodium glycerophosphate in the PN solution (PO4 80 mg/kg/day) resulted in a prompt decrease in Ca concentrations to 10 mg/dl within 24 h, with transient symptoms of hypocalcaemia (ionized Ca 3.4 mg/dl), which could be in part favored by contemporary infusion of albumin (Fig. 1).
