ALB and Hypoalbuminemia: The results from high-quality RCTs suggest that intravenous albumin administration does not reduce the mortality rate in mixed populations of critically ill patients, including those who have hypoalbuminemia.(26) Even albumin supplementation in addition to crystalloids targeting serum concentrations higher than 30g per liter in septic patients did not improve survival at 28 and 90 days.(27) Thus, we believe that this finding probably reflects local practice patterns rather than solid evidence.
