Further along this line, inhibition of Gal‐3 expression in human breast cancer cells significantly reduced cell growth rates, anchorage‐independent growth, and thereby colony formation capacity as well as tumor growth in nude mice [94], effects we likewise observed following L1CAM knockdown and concomitant downregulation of galctin‐3 expression in our RB cell lines.
