Cardiovascular calcification in CKD is a component of the so-called “Chronic Kidney Disease – Mineral and Bone Disorder” (CKD-MBD) syndrome, which additionally comprises abnormalities of hormones and minerals (especially fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23), phosphate, calcium, parathyroid hormone, and vitamin D) and renal osteodystrophy (1).
