Obesity has been shown to be associated with the production of dysregulated cytokines and augment the synthesis of acute-phase reactants, such as IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, C-reactive protein (CRP), and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) in patients with obesity and various animal models of obesity (4–7). This evidence concerns the gene TNF and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
