A systemic review involving 855 PCOS patients investigated the effects of probiotics (Lactobacillus) in treating PCOS, and the results showed that probiotic supplementation in PCOS women significantly improved their hormonal index by reducing free androgen index (FAI) and increasing sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), and their inflammatory index by increasing plasma nitric oxide (NO) and reducing blood malondialdehyde (MDA) (Shamasbi et al., 2020). This evidence concerns the gene SHBG and polycystic ovary syndrome.
