Egfl7, a recently identified protein involved in the progression of HCC, maybe a satisfactory marker for HCC: it is a secretory protein, is specifically overexpressed in HCC cells instead of normal cells such as vascular endothelial cells or cholangiocytes within HCC tissues, and is hardly detectable in human adult normal liver tissues [31, 32]. Here, EGFL7 is linked to hepatocellular carcinoma.
