In the SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth (SEARCH) study, youth with T2D were found to have significantly higher urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratios than youth with T1D (126), and this difference remained significant after multivariable adjustment for obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, all known risk factors for DKD that are more prevalent in youth with T2D vs. T1D (126). This evidence concerns the gene ALB and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
