A more recent study performed by Cai et al. on 19 melanomas of the female genital tract and paired with 25 cutaneous melanomas, 18 acral melanomas and 11 melanomas of the nasal cavity, concluded that malignant melanoma of the female genital tract harbors distinct mutation rates in the KIT, BRAF, SF3B1, KRAS, and NRAS genes. This evidence concerns the gene NRAS and cutaneous melanoma.
