Wahl et al. [30] carried out a multicenter cross-sectional study involving 3756 participants with mild to moderate CKD (20–70 mL/min/1.73 m2) and reported that patients with DM (the type of diabetes was not considered) had higher plasma levels of cFGF23 (172.4 (114.3–277.2) vs. 121.9 (84.0–198.8) RU/mL, p < 0.001) and also experienced an earlier onset of FGF23 excess (≥100 RU/mL). Here, FGF23 is linked to chronic kidney disease.
