STAT3 signaling is activated in skeletal muscle and promotes skeletal muscle atrophy in muscle diseases, such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and merosin-deficient congenital muscular dystrophy (MDC1A) [54,55,56]; thus, prolonged activation of STAT3 in muscles is responsible for muscle wasting by activating protein degradation pathways. Here, STAT3 is linked to Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
