VEGFA and age-related macular degeneration: Despite an increasing number of reports highlighting the key role of VEGF-A in the development of blood vessels in tumors and other tissues undergoing abnormal angiogenesis [27,28], and the development of new anti-VEGF antibodies to counteract neovascularization, especially in advanced cancers or in ocular diseases (i.e., ranibizumab, bevacizumab, aflibercept, etc.)[29], side effects and the progression of AMD continue to be observed and lead to treatment failures.
