The oncogenic functions of MALAT1 include: (i) The regulation of gene expression at posttranscriptional level by regulating splicing of pre-mRNAs into nuclear speckles; (ii) epigenetic regulation of gene expression of target genes by interacting with PRC2 components EZH2, SUZ12, and EED and promoting trimethylation of histone H3 at lysine 27 (H3K27me3); (iii) acting as a sponge of tumor suppressor microRNAs; and (iv) at transcriptional level by interacting with phosphorylated RNA polymerase [36].
