INS and Hyperglycemia: In an experimental study, Wistar rats were divided into two groups and treated with a diet of oxidized palm oil and sucrose to induce hyperglycemia or a standard diet for 16 weeks; at the end of this period, animals presenting intolerance in the glucose test and insensitivity to insulin were continuously fed the hypercaloric diet along with the administration of the plant extract of Sclerocarya birrea (150 or 300 mg/kg) or glibenclamide (10 mg/kg) for 3 weeks.
