GAL and endometritis: With regard to the innervation of an inflamed uterus, it has been shown that in the DRGs, endometritis increased the population of perikarya-expressing substance P (SP) in rats [32] and sets of SP- and GAL-positive uterine perikarya in gilts [26], suggesting a role of these neuropeptides in the sensory stimuli transmission from pathologically changed organs to the spinal cord, as well as in antidromic modulation of uterus function.
