In BCO2-knockout male mice, lycopene supplementation for 24 weeks in combination with high fat diet resulted in an increment in hepatic lycopene, miR-199a/b, miR214 and decrement in hepatocellular carcinoma incidence, multiplicity, endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated unfolded protein response, ER(UPR) and oncogenic biomarkers such as Met mRNA, β-catenin and mTOR1. This evidence concerns the gene BCO2 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
