Recently, Todd et al. evaluated the circulating serum levels of MMPs (MMPs 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 12, and 13) and tissue inhibitors of MMPs (TIMP) (TIMPs 1, 2, and 4) in a cohort of 300 IPF patients from the IPF-PRO Registry, highlighting that MMPs and TIMPs analyzed were all present at higher levels in patients with IPF compared with controls except for TIMP2. Here, TIMP1 is linked to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
