In GDM, the inflammatory state is characterized by increased plasma circulating levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, namely tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin 6 (TNF-α and IL-6, respectively) and lower plasma levels of anti-inflammatory molecules, such as adiponectin and interleukin 10 (IL-10) [2,3]. This evidence concerns the gene ADIPOQ and gestational diabetes.
