Li et al. isolated from the sponge Rhabdastrella globostellata (collected in South China Sea) nine new isomalabaricane-derived compounds, named globostelletins A–I, jaspolides F, rhabdastrellic acid A, (-)-stellettin E, and stellettins C and D. Of these, rhabdastrellic acid A was found to damage the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway (UPP), the central protein degradation system in eukaryotic cells and a potential target for cancer therapy, and induced caspase 3 in HL-60 cells at 5 μM [85].
