Several large multicenter randomized controlled trials have shown the ability of sodium‐glucose linked cotransporter‐2 (SGLT2) inhibitors to attenuate the rate of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) decline in patients with diabetes, reduce the incidence of acute kidney injury (Neuen et al., 2019; Perkovic et al., 2019) and improve survival (Inzucchi et al., 2018; Zelniker et al., 2019; Zinman et al., 2015). Here, SLC5A2 is linked to diabetes mellitus.
