This large, contemporary community-based study has shown that high NP at diagnosis (NT-proBNP >2000 pg/mL) is associated with more than a twofold increased risk of HF-related hospitalisation in the first year, and higher risk of death in the short and long-term, compared with moderate NP levels (NT-proBNP 400–2000 pg/mL). The gene discussed is NPPB; the disease is hydrops fetalis.
