TGFB1 and breast carcinoma: Several chromosomal alterations shown to be associated with increased risk have been described previously, including regions on chromosome 3, 5 and 7.25,26 The 2 regions on chromosome 19 are noteworthy as they represent previously unrecognized regions associated with ovarian cancer malignancy, although they have been associated with lung, prostate, and breast cancer.27,28,29 Specifically, the miRNA cluster on Chr19q has been implicated as a driver in triple negative breast cancer.29 Genes involved in epithelial to mesenchymal transition (TGFB1 and LTBP4) are present in this region as well.
