Some authors suspected that treating hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases with antihypertensive drugs could increase ACE2 levels and increase the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and/or replication, leading to an increased risk of admission to the intensive care unit, mechanical ventilation, and, sometimes, death in patients with COVID-19 (Diaz, 2020; Fang et al., 2020; Ferrario et al., 2020). This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and COVID-19.
