SOGC: drug-based thromboprophylaxis is recommended postpartum in thefollowing situations: prior VTE, high risk thrombophilia (antiphospholipid antibodysyndrome, antithrombin deficiency, homozygosis of factor V Leiden or the G20210Amutation of the prothrombin gene, or combined thrombophilias), confinement to bed for7 or days or more before delivery, bleeding exceeding 1 L during peripartum orpostpartum, transfusion of blood products, postpartum surgery, and infection duringperipartum or postpartum.31 The gene discussed is F2; the disease is hereditary antithrombin deficiency.
