After isolation by inertial microfluidic separation, flow cytometry uncovered mature CD16bright PMN (FSC+SSC+CD45+CD66b+CD16+), immature CD16dim, and CD16– PMN in peripheral blood from patients with sepsis drawn within 72 hours of presentation (day 0), whereas only mature CD16bright PMN were detected in healthy blood (Figure 1A; gating strategy in Supplemental Figure 1; supplemental material available online with this article; https://doi.org/10.1172/jci.insight.148866DS1).
