The secretion of alveolar fluid, caused by inhibiting Na+ entry, is sensitive to inhibition of CFTR, NKCC, or Na+-K+-ATPase (Solymosi et al., 2013), suggesting that CFTR, NKCC or Na+-K+-ATPase inhibitors may have potential in treating pulmonary edema caused by low expression of ENaC. The gene discussed is CFTR; the disease is pulmonary edema.
