To determine if exposure to sporozoites triggers a specific IgA response in malaria-naïve individuals, we screened longitudinal plasma samples from a clinical trial (VRC 314) in which malaria-naïve U.S. individuals were immunized intravenously (i.v.)with three doses of irradiated, aseptic, cryopreserved P. falciparum NF54 sporozoites (Sanaria PfSPZ Vaccine) prior to controlled human malaria infection (CHMI) with P. falciparum 3D7-infected mosquitoes. This evidence concerns the gene CD79A and malaria.
