The downregulation of ANXA1 SUMOylation resulted in an increase in its phosphorylation level, which in turn promoted its nuclear translocation, followed by activation of proapoptotic Bid gene expression and the caspase-3 apoptosis pathway, ultimately leading to neuronal apoptotic death after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. The gene discussed is CASP3; the disease is brain ischemia.
