Hypoxia, one of the factors that induce the expression of pluripotency markers, is shown to enrich a Quiescent population, characterized by the high expressions of POU5F1, SOX2, and NANOG; low expression of proliferative markers (CCNA2 and MKI67) and EMT marker like ID1, when analyzed by single-cell RNA-Seq using breast cancer cells (Akrap et al., 2016). This evidence concerns the gene NANOG and breast cancer.
