Veena et al. (2003) also found that a tobacco alcohol dehydrogenase gene was down-regulated in the presence of a virulent Agrobacterium strain at later infection time points. In addition, our RNA-seq experiments revealed that the transcription factor WRKY33 was up-regulated 12 h after VirE2 induction (Supplementary Data Sheet 2). Zheng et al. (2006) showed that ectopic over-expression of WRKY33 resulted in increased susceptibility to the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas syringae, and that WRKY33 could act as a negative regulator of bacterial defense responses.
